Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Just Tournaments ("we," "us," or "the Service") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Service - whether as a tournament Organizer or as a Contestant checking in to play.

Definitions

  • Organizer - a registered user who creates and manages a tournament. Organizer accounts require an email address and password.
  • Contestant - a player checked into a tournament. Contestants do not create an account or provide an email address; they're identified by a name (pseudonyms encouraged) entered at check-in and a random device cookie.
  • Device Cookie - a randomly generated identifier (no personal information encoded in it) stored in your browser so the Service can recognize your device across matches in the same tournament, and across tournaments if you check in again later.
  • Personal Data - any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual, such as an email address or a name.
  • Service - the Just Tournaments website and the tournament-management, check-in, bracket, and leaderboard features it provides.
  • Service Provider - a third party we use to help operate the Service, such as our hosting provider or payment processor.

What we collect

Organizer account data

When you create an Organizer account, we collect:

  • Email address (used for sign-in, account confirmation, and password resets)
  • A securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text)
  • An optional phone number, if you choose to add one to your profile.
  • The tournaments, games, and settings you create - names, descriptions, notes, and schedule

Contestant / gameplay data

Checking in to a tournament does not require an account. We collect only what's needed to run the bracket and leaderboard:

  • First and last name, as entered at check-in (typically by the player, or by an organizer/kiosk on the player's behalf)
  • A random device cookie, so the same phone is recognized for later game play without re-entering your name every time
  • Match results, dispute notes, and win/loss records, which drive the bracket, standings, and leaderboard display

We do not ask Contestants for an email address, phone number, or any other contact information. If an Organizer separately collects that information outside the Service (for example, on a paper sign-up sheet), that collection is the Organizer's responsibility, not ours.

Usage data and cookies

Like most web apps, our hosting infrastructure logs basic technical data (IP address, browser type, request timestamps) for security and troubleshooting. We do not currently use third-party analytics or advertising trackers. The only cookies we set are:

  • Authentication cookie - keeps an Organizer signed in.
  • Device cookie (jt_device) - the random Contestant device identifier described above.
  • Connection/session cookies - required by the underlying web framework (Blazor Server) to maintain your live connection to the page.

How we use this data

  • To run the Service - generating brackets, recording match results, computing standings, and displaying leaderboards and spectator/TV views is the primary reason any of this data exists.
  • To manage your account - Organizer sign-in, confirmation emails, and password resets.
  • To communicate with you - transactional messages (dispute notifications, account emails) always go out. We may also send Organizers occasional product updates or tips by email; you can opt out of non-essential emails at any time without affecting your ability to use the Service.
  • To improve the Service - understanding how tournaments are used (e.g. typical size, feature usage) to prioritize what we build next. We do this using our own data, not third-party ad-tech.

We do not sell Personal Data to third parties, and we do not use Contestant names for marketing. Any future marketing use is limited to Organizer email addresses, is opt-out, and is described above.

Where your data is stored

The Service runs on infrastructure located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.

How long we keep it

Organizer account data is kept for as long as the account exists. Tournament, contestant, and match data is kept for as long as the tournament remains on the Service, so standings and history stay available to the Organizer and Contestants who played in it. An Organizer can delete a tournament (and the contestant/match data tied to it) at any time from their dashboard. If you'd like data deleted sooner, or deleted on your behalf, contact us using the details below.

Sharing your data

We share information only in these situations:

  • With Service Providers who help us operate the Service - our hosting provider and email delivery provider.
  • With other users of the same tournament - a Contestant's name, standings, and match results are visible to other participants and spectators of that tournament by design (that's how a leaderboard and bracket work).
  • If required by law - to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights, or prevent fraud or abuse.
  • In a business transfer - if Just Tournaments is ever acquired or its assets transferred, your data may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy or a successor policy you're notified of.

Your choices

  • Organizers can update or delete their account, and delete tournaments they created, from their account settings.
  • Contestants can clear their device cookie at any time by clearing browser cookies for this site; doing so means the Service will no longer recognize your device on your next visit, and you'll check in again as a new device.
  • You can ask us to access, correct, or delete Personal Data we hold about you by contacting us below.

Children's privacy

Family and youth game nights are a normal use case for this Service, so a Contestant's name may belong to a child. The Service does not collect contact information (email, phone) from Contestants at all, and does not knowingly collect such information from anyone under 13. Organizers running events involving children are responsible for having the appropriate permission to enter a participant's name into the check-in system. If you believe a child's information was collected in a way that concerns you, contact us and we'll address it.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data (e.g. hashed passwords, encrypted connections), but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
